I imagine it would be best read for a class, as the experience was most satisfying when I understood how each era influences the next, and how the different styles relate to each other, and it was difficult to come back to the book after a couple of months and remember what had happened previously. Sneetches and Other Stories is Seuss at his best, with distinctively wacky illustrations and ingeniously weird prose. And so on it went, until McBean had all of the money. He has taught the art history survey course for more than three decades, first at the University of Virginia and, since 1978, at Boston University, where he is currently professor of art history and archaeology. The moral lesson in The Sneetches is put together in a very clever way.

The language is straight forward — heck it has pretty pictures, what else do you want? I like the combination of background, religion, together with art. Among the beneficiaries are both African and Etruscan art, which each have their own chapter for the first time. When I was in college as a freshman, this textbook was assigned for a survey class.
